Are Tuesdays the new Mondays?

A slew of Tuesday meal deals suggests the third day of the week requires extra incentives to get consumers in the door, begging the question: Is Tuesday the new Monday?

“We rely heavily on industry people on Mondays,” says Bo Fowler, executive chef of Owen & Engine in Chicago. “A lot of restaurants are closed on Mondays, so chefs and other industry people like to go to a place that is comfy, but still executed with high standards.

“Tuesdays we do a value-driven promotion. It fills a normally slow day with guests and introduces a lot of people to our restaurant that might have never dined with us.” Owen & Engine’s Tuesday deal features a signature burger, a shot of bourbon and a draft beer for the discounted price of $16. The burger regularly sells for $18 on its own.

It seems that without the help of industry night, Tuesdays require the help of meal deals. Here is a roundup of 11 Tuesday discount deals available today.

Taco John’s has owned the trademark for Taco Tuesday since 1989, but that doesn’t stop other restaurants from ramping up taco specials on this alliterative weekday. Beef ‘O’ Brady’s offers two tacos—chicken, steak or fish—with chips and salsa for $5.99 on Tuesday nights at participating locations. 

Bonefish Grill offers a three-course menu starting at $14.90 on Tuesdays that includes a salad, entree and dessert. Entrees available at the $14.90 price point include Cod Piccata, Chicken Teriyaki Bowl and The Angler’s Sirloin Steak. 

Brixx released a Two for Tuesday dine-in coupon on its website that’s valid through June 7. Customers who buy two dine-in entrees can get two free after 5 p.m. on Tuesdays with this coupon. 

Caribou Coffee is currently offering members of its Perks rewards club any two menu items for $5 every Tuesday. The deal is valid through June 27. 

Sonic Drive-In recently launched a recurring Tuesday Family Night special, wherein half-price cheeseburgers are available from 5 p.m. to close. 

Denny’s allows kids to eat free every Tuesday from 4 to 10 p.m.

Keeping in line with the Tuesday family meal promotions at leading chains, Ruby Tuesday lets kids eat free every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to close. As part of the deal, customers who purchase an adult entree can receive one free entree for their child. 

Ruby Tuesday is also promoting Top Shelf Tuesdays this month, with $5 top-shelf margaritas. 

It’s not just the big chains doing the Tuesday night specials. This independent restaurant in Portland, Ore., serves up all-you-can-eat tacos on Tuesdays for a set price of $14.75. According to its website, the current record is 20 tacos. 

Osteria Langhe, an independent upscale Italian concept in Chicago, offers a Trifecta Tuesday prix-fixe menu for $38, which includes an appetizer, entree and dessert. Several of the entree choices are more than $30 on their own on the regular menu.   

Emerging Tennessee-based chain Blue Coast Burrito offers $1.99 kids meals with the purchase of an adult meal from 5 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays. The discounted Little Surfer Meals come with an entree, chips, salsa and a drink. 

The wings chain has been so successful with a standing Tuesday night discount on wings that it's feeling some ill effects from the offer. Wing prices failed to slide this year as they usually do after the NCAA playoffs, squeezing margins and sending the chain on a scramble to find another way to deliver on the Wings Tuesday bargain offer. Among the possibilities: putting more focus on boneless wings, which are actually made from breast meat and usually carry a lower cost.
