Hilton Head Christian Academy‘s Life+ blog was created to equip today’s Christian parents with practical tools, thought provoking content, and honest conversation.
Its goal is to empower you to implement intentional Christian parenting in the midst of a culture that cultivates chaos and confusion almost every day. The multitude of questions and messages we face as parents is seemingly endless.
Over the last year alone, just a few of the challenging questions we have been asked are:
- Are teen depression and suicide rates really rising?
- How do I deal with the ever changing sexuality in America?
- How much will COVID impact my student emotionally in the long term? Should my child be vaccinated?
- Is it bad to spend time each weekend in travel sports?
- Why is it important to be a part of a church and at worship service each Sunday?
- Should I put my child on birth control “just in case”?
- Isn’t it safer for my child and his/her friends to be drinking at my house if they are going to be drinking anyway?
- Is social media really bad for my kids?
Throughout the 2021-2022 school year, our goal for the Life+ blog is to Biblically address these questions, and many more.
Let’s get to the heart of what parenting is all about from God’s perspective.
HHCA’s spiritual life theme for the 2021-2022 school year is “Endures Forever” from Psalm 136. It’s a reminder that certain principles based on God’s character truly do endure forever.
As Christian parents this reality is a constant reminder to approach parenting through the lens of the Gospel.
Over the past several months, we have prayerfully evaluated how we were “doing parenting.” We thought we were doing ok! After all, we trained our kids to do what we want them to do and be what we expect them to be.
We have come to realize, however, that we were missing an all-important piece of the parenting puzzle–we were not capturing their hearts.
We were humbled to make this realization, and continue to be as we navigate our path to be Godly parents raising Godly children.
This fall, we look forward to parenting alongside all of you through a new series based on a life-giving book by Pastor Paul Tripp: Parenting. The book outlines “14 Gospel principles that can radically change your family.”
Each week we will unpack them chapter by chapter right here on the Life+ blog.
We hope you’ll grab a copy and dive in with us, taking time to discuss each principle with your own family and the people God has placed in your life.

As we continue in our parenting journey, we have found that the answer to how we are doing as parents can be summarized by our childrens’ answers to one question: “Do you think we care more about your heart or your behavior?” The answers to this question were both enlightening, humbling and helpful.
